The Elf and Hornet were intended to be the top end of the Mini range. Though built with more stylised bodywork, and fitted with more luxurious seats, much of the trim fitted was otherwise very similar to the standard Mini, as both cars effectively shared the same inner structure. In late 1966 the Elf & Hornet were the first cars to be fitted with the MKIII style doors, with the luxury of winding windows! Of course these were later brought into more general use when in 1969 the entire Mini saloon range was upgraded to ‘Mk3’ status incorporating many improvements and rationalised production processes- at the same time, the Elf & Hornet were discontinued.
These new door panels are as original - they are made using the same methods and patterns as standard MKIII Mini door panels, however we use dedicated tooling on our high frequency welding machine to emboss the correct stylised design onto the face of the door panel.l. In this instance the MKIII Elf & Hornet door panel design saw a reversion to something more akin to the standard MKI style, instead of the previous unique design.
While we have three different shades of red listed, we believe the closest to the original shade is Grenadine Red. All three shades of red have been used during the production of our interior parts so please check carefully when matching to parts already purchased from us.
Please note that colours listed are those that were used in the original manufacture of the vehicle. We do, however, have a number of other colours which are available to order – please check out our colour swatches section at the bottom of the page to see the wide range of other colours available or get in touch with our sales team who will be happy to send samples.
