We strongly believe that an apprenticeship can offer a route into a skilled industry that you may not have considered before. We first started our apprenticeship scheme back in 2011 and some of those initial team are now working throughout our factory using a variety of skills in a wide range of departments. We also see the benefits of NVQ qualifications and training throughout your career here at Newton Commercial, building on the skills you have learnt. Find out more about our apprenticeship and training scheme below from Jonny Newton, our managing director, and apprentices both past and present.

Tom Joined us in 2003 after leaving school. Tom already knew about Newton Commercial after spending two weeks here on work experience. Originally starting in the stapling department, Tom has since worked in most areas of the factory including panels, stores, and cutting. For the last ten years Tom has worked in the seat department, which he now manages the day to day running of and will rebuild your seats to a better than new condition.

Toms main hobby is his love (or obsession) with anything mountain biking.

In 2003 Karen started working at Newton Commercial as a sewing machinist. In her own words Karen has always enjoyed working with her hands and being creative, and the challenge of creating a car seat for a classic car really intrigued her. She has now completed a number of NVQs and training schemes with Newton Commercial and runs our busy sewing department.

Written by Karen;

"It was a delight to find myself working in such a friendly environment with good skills training and an opportunity to advance yourself and learn more skills with drive and ambition."

Stuart joined the apprenticeship scheme in September 2010 in an apprenticeship which covered all areas of manufacturing at Newton Commercial. This means that on a daily basis Stuart is able to pull on his wealth of knowledge of all areas of the factory including carpet department, moulding department, board factory, cutting department and now works in our busy dispatch team sending products all over the world.

In Stuart's own words hobbies are few and far between as he has a very young family. If he could find the time Stu's real love is football and his undying love for Liverpool FC.
